Founders - Backwood BastardThis is ‘bourbon barrel aged ale’ that sounded good when I picked it up. It even looked good as a dark brown/red beer with little head. The aroma was sweet. The taste was not so much to my liking. The bourbon came through with a taste of strong alcohol. I later found out that it is a 10.2% ABV. It packs quite a punch and it made me throw my head back a bit. The vanilla / caramel / bourbon combined with the higher ABV just isn’t my thing as the bitterness that should have been there wasn’t. Founders has some interesting ways of brewing and aging thier beer, this one is pass for me.

Specs: 12oz bottle
10.2% ABV
IBU: 50
