This is my last Speakeasy beer to sample. The beer poured up with a cascade like Guinness. The larger head formed and lingered at the surface for awhile. The darker color reddish-brown surprised me a bit as I expected a lighter beer. The aroma is sweet and hoppy floral. The taste bites my tongue and it isn’t a good bite. I think it is the higher alcohol content that turns me off on barley wines as a style, even though I like my scotch! The bitters at the end are really what helps me get over this beer. The bitter aftertaste takes away that alcohol taste that stings at the beginning. Final thoughts on Speakeasy: Give them a chance, they make some good beer, and some specialty beers. Best of all they got a damn good domain name! www.goodbeer.com
