This was my college beer of choice (I preferred bottled). When I had just a bit more money, it was Killian’s. This is one of the beers you will most likely find in the garage fridge up at the lake. Always a good summer beer that you can just keep drinking! The color is not much different than the other college favorite beers we have tried with it’s light yellow color. Aroma is about the same with some sweet malts. The taste is light with a finish of hops and malts that stay just a moment before fading away. I only rate a 3 due it’s in a can, that’s good for boat trips, but not for drinking at home.

For the Willow Run house, cheers! This became the beer of choice for this summer’s festivities because it was the cheapest beer by volume at the closest carryout; that’s the only reason we bought it too. The golden/straw color, the plain aroma of a light beer, and a taste as transparent as the color. Our favorite serving size? 3 beers, 10 cup triangle. Not much to comment on, just fond memories of people having a good time on weeknights.

Wow, here’s a beer that screams ‘college week’! Incredibly light color and a taste so light it’s practically the taste of light hops and crisp water. You won’t notice anything more than a simple, light, hop aroma on the nose. Will this classic college beer survive now that Anheuser Busch has been purchased by Inbev? Time will tell, but until then, this will remain a low cost, high volume staple for colleges around the country.

Another college favorite beer, and it was my grandfather’s beer of choice. This is also known as ‘The Beast’. A while back I took a tour of the brewery, and this was their 2nd highest selling beer. Amazing, just truly amazing. I bet the college 30 pack is what did it. If you think about it you can do 4 straight power hours. Any ways this beer pours up much like Bud Light with a light yellow color and lots of head. The aroma is about the same and the taste is the same with plain weak watering flavors. I only give it a higher rating due to the elimination of the rice filler. Thanks Miller for staying true to Reinheitsgebot.

Chris had an idea to do a college week. This consists of the common college drank beers. I will kick it off with something I like a bit more than Kias: Bud Light. That light lager that pours up with a good amount of head. Notice the can for easy transport and no ‘clink’ nosies when heading into the dorm. The aroma smell like a bad frat house. The taste is well acceptable for the price. I especially like the use of rice as a filler. A special thanks to John for leaving me with 7 cans of this in my cooler the other weekend!

This is a summer or spring ale from New Belgium Brewing. The beer was surprisingly light. I expect the spring/summer beers to be wheat and light, but this is quite light. The aroma was floral and had hints of citrus. The taste is dry and a has a bite at the end. It is not the hoppy finish that I like. This bite is created by citrus in the beer. I would have to guess orange peel and some definite lemon peel. I could have a few of these on a hot summer day, but just sitting at home tonight, one is enough.

Here’s a Belgian style wit beer from Flying Dog’s seasonal selection. Even before I caught the mild wheat aroma, the bright, almost lemonade color of this brew threw me off guard. The head was creamy and soon as it was broken, wheat and hops took over. The flavor was overpowering with a citrus tang and the hops just hit hard throughout. If you should have an extreme wit beer craving, then this would be a good choice.
