Breckenridge - Oatmeal StoutThis stout was part of Breckenridge’s sampler pack. The stout was black and did not have very much head. The aroma was that of deeply roasted malts. The taste was bitter, nutty, and a bit chocolaty. It was a decent oatmeal stout and I will have the other two from the sampler, but I don’t believe I would buy this by itself.

Now here’s a real Australian Beer. It lacks a coffee flavor that many stouts have as a dominant flavor. There’s a deep chocolaty flavor, almost of dark chocolate with minimal sweetness. It poured with little head and was about as dark as I’ve found. If you’re looking for an Aussie beer, look no further than Coopers.

Magic Hat - Hocus PocusThis is Magic Hat’s summer seasonal beer. The art work is always different and that is a nice change. The pour of this one left very little head, and the little that was there faded quickly. The color was an amber with little bubbles rising up to the top trying to escape. The aroma has just a bit of citrus and wheat. The taste is a bit bland, and not very exciting. Sorry, it’s not me it’s the beer. So I guess let this one go for a more exciting summer seasonal.

Blue Moon - Rising MoonThis is one us Blue Moon’s spring ale. This isn’t a typical wheat ale made with Kieffer lime leaves and peel needs no extra fruit to complete the drink. The aroma is actually like a crisp light beer, not wheaty at all. Flavor follows suit with a simple, light taste, nothing but a slight “tang” just as the bitters cleanse. While this wasn’t my favorite of their seasonal brews, finishing a pack of Rising Moon would be fine by me.

Samuel Adams-Summer AleThis is Sam’s summer seasonal which if you can’t tell by the name, you already have had enough. This beer pours up nicely with just a bit of head. The yellow color hints of the wheat used to brew it. The sweet wheat aroma is nice right before you down the entire bottle. It is that good. I once said that a nice color Miller Lite or Sunset Wheat is a perfect beer for a hot day as they are light, and do not have a deep roasted malt taste to them, but this one is now up there with those. Good job Sam, I will drink one on your success!

Every brew from Stone has a bold taste and leaves me blown away, so when I saw the gargoyle in an ushanka, I had to try. This dark Imperial Russian Stout lets no light thru and gives the aroma of a great roasted coffee. There’s a mild sweetness in this heavy and full-bodied stout. Probably my favorite of the Stone brews I’ve tried, this Russian Stout has been the best. Go wings!

Steinhaus - Fat Weasel AleThis is a light amber colored beer with lots of little bubbles collecting on the edges of the glass. The head faded quickly to my surprise. As I drank, no head or bubbles collected on the side. It was clean and dry tasting. It had just a bit of hops at the end, but not strong. The aroma was weak with just a slight malt scent. What really gets me about this beer is that it is like drinking a MGD, but it is higher in alcohol. Not bad for a beer that has a weasel wearing a bad 80’s music video shirt on.

Specs: 12oz bottle
7.1% ABV
