Sullivan’s - .38 Special BitterMy parents picked this brew up for me in Frankenmuth, Michigan. From the website, it looks like a nice place to eat, drink, and hang out. My father tried some of their beers and liked the One Ton Ale they had. I was given the .38 Special Bitter. From what I am smelling and tasting it does not sound 100% truthful. It poured a dark brown, with a bit of head. The smell that of sweet ripe fruit. I can’t distinguish the smell of a particular fruit, but something in the smell grabs me. It reminds me of the Sam Adam’s Triple Bock smell. The taste I was expecting was to be very bitter, but it was not. A coating covered my tongue as I tasted almost a prune or scotch sweetness. I did not get the bitter, or at least this taste covered it. Just not what I look for in a beer, low IBU I am guessing, but the sheet shows 38. I was glad that I had some others to share this with. Their reactions: Only one person raised their opinion of this by saying: “It’s not my thing” but continued to drink. Another comment was ‘I am going to drink that motor oil.” I will not give up on the Sullivan’s beers, and look forward to visiting.
