I did not see Chris’ previous post on the Boston Lager, so I happily go back to the fridge and grab another beer! I do have another Sam, this time the Winter Lager. This is of course a seasonal beer, and has a bit darker color than the Boston Lager. The aroma is about the same, along with the pour. This time I used the sampling glasses given to us on the tour of the brewery. The taste is filled with the holiday spices that include some cinnamon. I was surprised to read that they do have orange peel in this one. I was unaware! I will still say get this one before it is gone for the season!

I think it would be ok with the Boston Beer Company if I just called it a Sam. What we have here today is a great beer by Sam. The pour was as expected from Sam, and gave a nice 3/4 inch of head. Being able to look through an amber colored beer means the filtration of the hops and other ingredients is complete. The aroma has hops and that sweet beer smell. The taste is spot on with a nice bite of hops, but not as much as a pale ale would have. Sam prides themselves on their hops above all other ingredients, and I thank them for that! Today I sip this beer from my Doyle’s Cafe glass. Doyle’s was the first bar to serve Sam on tap. Raise ‘em high for Doyle’s knowing what is best for themselves, and the rest of us!
